Cruelty by Constitution

Last week a landslide majority of North Carolina voters elected to amend their state constitution for the sole purpose of denying gay people in love the right to marry each other. The state already has a statute on the books outlawing gay marriage but these voters wanted to make absolutely sure that there is no possibility of gays ever getting married in North Carolina.
You, see, these folks know full well that denying other people equality under the law is usually found to be unconstitutional by the courts, so that’s why they flocked to the polls in force to squelch any such thing from happening in their state. In their minds and hearts gays must emphatically be denied all of the benefits of marriage, period!
So, now the North Carolina state constitution provides that: "marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized." This amendment plainly goes even far beyond ordinary state law by voiding other types of domestic or civil unions from carrying any legal status.
I call it cruelty by constitution.
There is nothing new about it. Nine other American states have passed laws banning gay marriage; Florida, Virginia and Ohio have also amended their constitutions for the sole purpose of denying gays the right to marry those they love.
Back in the old days of antiquity, long before the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Holy Bible was the only constitution of any importance as far as Jews and Christians were concerned. And the Holy Bible condemns homosexuality under no uncertain terms.
At the beginning, in the Old Testament book of Genesis, Chapter 19, God destroyed the city of Sodom with fire and brimstone, killing all the inhabitants, including even the innocent little babies, because some of the people there were openly gay.
“Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.  A man shall not lie carnally with a man. For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, shall be cut off from among their people.  The penalty for all these abominations is death,” God commanded in Leviticus, chapter 18.
Paul the Apostle, in the New Testament also preached fervently against the abomination of homosexuality: “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

“Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, and disobedient to parents,” Paul concluded in Romans, Chapter 1.

So the Christian message as taught by Paul to the faithful was that Gays, by definition are not only defilers of God’s plan for human nature, but murderers, liars, haters of God, and practitioners of every other horrible kind of evil, such as inventing evil things and not obeying their parents.
This is precisely why church leaders in North Carolina urged Sunday congregations to vote for the anti-gay amendment. Ninety-three-year-old Rev. Billy Graham was featured in full-page newspaper ads supporting it. The opposition to gay marriage is entirely based upon religion and there is absolutely no rational basis to account for it.
"I know that some people may argue that the Bible may not necessarily be applicable, or it should not be applicable, on such policy matters. But even looking at nature itself, procreation is impossible without a man and a woman. And because of those things, I think it is important that the state of North Carolina's laws are compatible with the laws of nature but, more importantly, with the laws of God," said one devout Christian who voted for the amendment.
"We are not anti-gay, we are pro-marriage," claimed another Bible thumper, "And the point -- the whole point -- is simply that you don't rewrite the nature of God's design for marriage based on the demands of a group of adults."
Within hours after passage of the anti-gay amendment a North Carolina county commissioner was already calling for the revocation of what he called “illegal” benefits provided by the state to unmarried same sex couples.
How can people who call themselves loving Christians be so downright cruel?
The reality of the matter is that approximately ten percent of the human populations on planet Earth are homosexual, and this fact is unchanged since before the dawn of history. If God created mankind as the religious zealots insist, then He created homosexuals, and even His laws as set forth in the Holy Bible have not changed that reality one wit.
Homosexuals are a normal part of the human population. Gay is not a lifestyle choice like choosing whether to live in the country side or the city; or whether to have chocolate or vanilla ice cream. They are gay by nature. They have no choice when it comes to their sex or their sexuality.
None of us has a choice. A heterosexual doesn’t choose to be straight. They are just naturally straight. So being homosexual or heterosexual is as normal has having red hair, dark skin, or brown eyes.
Gays present no threat to humanity; no threat to human culture; no threat to civilization whatsoever. They are all 100% normal within the biological variation among the species. They are human beings the same as you and me.
Males and females are not that much different from each other biologically. Only one chromosome separates them. All males are born with some female characteristics. Why is it, for example, that all males are born with breasts and nipples? Why in heavens name did God do that? Yet who would argue that men sporting nipples on their chests are 100% normal?
Nipples are natural for both sexes while only one sex actually uses them for a biological purpose. Likewise, all females are born with some male characteristics. They can’t help it. It’s not a matter of choice. There are tomboys among us who, by some standards, are manlier then most men. Again, it’s all 100% normal among the human population.
The bigotry and hatred directed toward some human beings as written in the Holy Bible is clearly not limited to homosexuals, yet it appears that gays are one of the last segments of humanity in the United States of America poised to overcome the cruelty of such irrational prejudice and discrimination toward them. But not if North Carolinians have their way.
Racial bigotry, stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination against blacks in America and elsewhere have its origins in the Holy Bible. The discriminations against women, who make up more than 50% of the entire human population, can be traced directly back to both the Old and New Testaments of Holy Bible. Women didn’t realize their emancipation in the United States until well after it was officially granted to black men.
The sin of adultery was, just like homosexuality, equally an abomination in the eyes of God. The same can be said for masturbation, cursing one’s parents, seeing the nakedness of one’s sister, having sex with one’s wife during her period, believing in other spirits or wizards – all of them punishable by the penalty of death. Leviticus: chapter 20.
So, why should adulterers, masturbators, parent haters and all the other evil doers amongst us be allowed to marry and live normal lives under the benefit of the laws? Why is it that homosexuals are the only sinners left to bear the brunt of God’s wrath in the eyes of the North Carolinians?
In fact, the very same passages in the Bible which excoriate homosexuals also spew hatred, venom, and prejudice against the innocent disabled (blemished) people among us who have no choice whatsoever in the matter of their physical conditions. The origin of cruel and irrational discrimination against these unfortunate people is also biblical:
“Whosoever has any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God, a blind man, or a lame, or he that has a flat nose, or anything superfluous,  Or a man that is broken footed, or broken handed, Or crookbacked, or a dwarf, or be scurvy, or scabbed, He shall eat the bread of his God, only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come to the altar, because he has a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: And Moses told Aaron, and his sons, and all the children of Israel.”  Leviticus: chapter 21.
Would these same Bible thumpers who want to discriminate against gays do so against the disabled? I don’t think so, but perhaps some of them would.
Fox News’ Bill O’reilly opined on his TV show recently that those against gay marriage aren’t bigots; it’s unfair to refer to them as bigots. It’s unfair to call Rick Santorum, for example, a religious bigot, says Bill. I find that incredible simply because, if Rick Santorum isn’t a religious bigot then there is certainly no such thing as a religious bigot.
Even mild mannered Mitt Romney, who, for the benefit of his Republican right wing religious constituency, professes of necessity his opposition to gay marriage, candidly admitted that he’s in favor of gay couples adopting and parenting children.
Now, that is a logical contradiction if there ever was one. Mitt Romney knows in his heart that gays are equal to straights and should be treated equal under the law the same as everyone. Amending the Constitution for the sole purpose irrationally suppressing the rights of normal human beings who just happen to be gay is nothing short of:
Cruelty by Constitution.
